Mental Health Rehabilitation Services Review

February 25, 2019 at 7:14 pm

Background

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (BNSSG CCG) are responsible for introducing and designing local healthcare services, overseeing the implementation of the service providers, and reviewing such services during their operations. These healthcare services include local mental health services, provided across the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire area.

One such service is the Mental Health Community Rehabilitation service, which provides assistance to people who may need intensive support (perhaps after a long-stay hospital admission). BNSSG CCG are currently reviewing this service, to make sure that the care and support it provides is effective and appropriate for those who make use of it. The review will feed into plans to make sure that there is a consistent local approach to mental health rehabilitation.

Existing services that provide this type of support include Alder Ward (at Callington Road Hospital); Elmham Way (in Worle); and Whittucks Road (in Hanham).

Your Involvement

BNSSG CCG are committed to ensuring that the views of people with lived experience of mental health and carers are heard as part of this review. Lived experience can be your own experience, the experience of someone close to you, or the experience of someone that you care for.

Those who are currently using these services, have previously used these services within the last two years, or could have benefitted from a different means of intervention are amongst those that the CCG is keen to hear from.

What is BIMHN Doing?

BIMHN is taking part in this review by running a survey. This survey is open until Thursday 4th April, and we are encouraging people affected by issues relating to mental health rehabilitation to complete it. Paper surveys are also available – please contact us if you wish to receive one.

We will also be holding two focus groups. We want to hear from a range of voices, so the two sessions will be slightly different.

  • Monday 1st April, 14:30 – 16:30: for family members and carers of those who are currently, or have made use of, mental health rehabilitation services in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire
  • Wednesday 3rd April, 14:00 – 16:00: for those currently accessing the local mental health community rehabilitation services, or have previously done so.

Please note that both sessions will take place at The Station, on Silver Street, Bristol (BS1 2AG), and last two hours. You can sign up by clicking the dates above and registering on Eventbrite. To recognise contributions to the sessions, reasonable travel expenses (up to £15) will be covered and a gift card worth £25 will be provided as a thank you.

If you have any questions about the review, or comments relating to it, please feel free to contact us.
